Pain Management

Chronic pain is one of the most common ailments that people complain of today, and traditional western medicine is often times unable to help them.   What defines chronic pain? If the pain has lasted more than a few months and has outlived its usefulness, then a person needs chronic pain management. Many times it begins with an injury that causes inflammation.

Alternative Chronic Pain Management

Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treats pain differently and therefore can be more successful at managing pain.  In TCM the whole body is treated, re-establishing the healthy flow of qi within the body.  When qi is flowing freely within the body, the blockages that cause chronic pain are removed and balance is restored.

Any and all of the TCM treatments are used to manage pain.  The TCM treatments that are most commonly used to manage pain are Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine.  Both of these treatments work to eliminate blockages within the body and to stimulate the flow of qi.   Other TCM modalities that may be used to manage pain are the instruction of Tai Chi or Qigong, Tuina, Gua shaCupping, Spinal Traction Therapy, or Moxibustion.

Massage Therapy

This treatment is one of the most popular for those suffering from an aching body. Benefits of Massage Therapy include:
1. May increase the production of endorphins
2. Can reduce muscle tension
3. Can increase circulation
4. Can improve joint mobility
5. Releases chronic patterns of tension

Reflexology

Reflexology is a type of therapy that uses gentle pressure on specific points along your feet (and possibly on your hands or ears as well) to help you feel better. The theory is that this eases stress, and that helps your body work better. It’s also known as zone therapy.

The way reflexology connects spots on the outside of your body to the inside is a bit like acupuncture and acupressure. But those therapies use points all over your body, not just on your feet, hands, and ears. And while reflexologists do use their hands, it isn’t a form of massage.

1. Can help improve circulation
2. Can help the body to remove toxins
3. Can help relieve common aches and pains
4. Promotes healthy functioning of the organs
